PATAGONIA | ALEXANDRIA, VA

ACS was involved in the entire process of bringing this beauty to market–from the initial, exploratory steps of working with the developer, to tending to the finishing touches just before the grand opening. Opened as the Richmond Theatre in 1914, the space served as a bustling community hub, providing a place for not only viewing movies but also live theatre, dancing, meetings and even classrooms, as necessary. Flash forward over a century later and once again the new tenant, Patagonia, aims to not only be a local retailer but to create a vibrant focal point for its Old Town community by offering classes, meeting spaces, and speaker events. To transform and safely reuse the building, ACS carefully salvaged original building features and architectural details throughout the space, including the original mosaic entry for The Richmond embedded in the floor. The entry was carefully reset before the new terrazzo floor was poured. The perfect blend of new and historic details, the entryway is a fitting micro-example of the entire completed space.
