The Clayton Chamber of Commerce held its 2021 Annual Meeting and Community Awards Ceremony on December 14, 2021, at The Clayton Center in Clayton, NC. The Barbour Building, in which Crawford Cookshop is a prominent part, received the 2021 Best Downtown Design Award from the Clayton Downtown Development Association.

 

The Best Downtown Design Award is given to the project that enhances the downtown of Clayton with thoughtful design and/or renovation, either interior or exterior. The Barbour Building was applauded for the interior design of Crawford Cookshop and the other street level tenants, the addition of the outdoor patio dining areas, and the overall rehabilitation of the structure. The award was given to and accepted by, developer Atlas Stark, general contractor August Construction Solutions and architect Louis Cherry. Scott Crawford, of Crawford Cookshop was also recognized.

 

The Barbour Building was built in 1910 and served as the former home of J.G. Barbour and Sons Hardware. It is centrally located on East Main Street in historic downtown Clayton, NC.
